Christmas at the Arizona Big Train Operators ABTO

Two weekends this December, several members of the ABTO have an open house to showcase their home layouts and Christmas decorations all to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Arizona. I was lucky enough to have time to visit 4 of them and in the process made new friends and met some very wonderful people. These types of events are not to be missed and I will try to post events such as this on the calendar page.

First I have to say I am not sure my pictures and videos do these layouts justice. These are some really great layouts. Second, we small scalers think our wives are kind to let us have our layouts ain't got nothing compared to what a garden railroaders wife has to allow.

Now with the new digital camera I have, I included some videos. They are a bit dark as I need to by a light kit for future night time videos. Videos have sound. So I hope you enjoy an my thanks to Charles Grady, Terry Haas, Ennis Thompson and Ed Dunshie for opening their homes and chatting with me.

The videos may take a bit of time to download as they run from 15 seconds to 30+ seconds and are in 480X640 resolution.

Charles Grady's home hosted the clubs portable layout.

Home of Terry Haas

Terry is a BIG fan of the DT&I, Detroit, Toledo and Ironton Railroad. Grew up near one of their lines and has a huge collection of DT&I rolling stock. He is also a collector of all kinds of trains as well.
Yes, the first two pictures are of a REAL working railroad crossing post. It's bolted to the ground, lights flash and the bell goes off an it's in the front yard to boot!

Ennis Thompson's Bonneyville Mills

Sadly Ennis will be moving and the beautiful layout will have to come down.
Look forward to the new layout.
